SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION

Keyword Density

Website Keyword Density

The Keyword Density is the ratio of the number of occurrences of a Targeted Keyword or Keyword Phrase to the total number of words in a Web page. It is a critical issue for Search Engine ranking – the more often the keyword or phrase appears in a page, the higher its Search Engine ranking.

The Keyword Density of a Keyword should be about 2% to 3% for the best results. A phrase repeated too frequently will be treated by the Search Engines as SPAM. If the Web page reads well to a visitor, the Search Engine will not treat the page as SPAM.

Home Page analysis

Here is an analysis from my Website optimisation package, showing the Keyword Density extracted from my Home page:-

Word/Phrase Count Keyword Density
visual 14 3.4
software 12 2.9
database 11 2.7
basic 8 1.9
microsoft 7 1.7
asp.net 7 1.7
website 6 1.4
programming 6 1.4
introduction 5 1.2
microsoft access 5 1.2
sql server 5 1.2
visual basic programmer 4 1.0
microsoft office 3 0.7
websites 3 0.7

As can be seen in the analysis, there is a concentration of Keywords relating to "Visual Basic Programming" in the Home page. For a search done using the targeted words, there will be a good chance that my Home page will have a high ranking.

If the resulting ranking is not good, then successive rewrites will be needed to increase the Keyword Density of the targeted phrases.
